(the Most Revd) Onesphore Rwaje
Archpishop of Rwanda and Bishop of Gasabo Diocese
Bishop Onesphore Rwaje was born in 1953 in the Sector of Kinyababa, District of Burera, in the Northern Province of Rwanda. He was consecrated as a deacon on July 28, 1985 and as a priest on July 27, 1986. He was ordained and consecrated the first bishop of the Diocese of Byumba on November 24, 1991. In 1989, he was appointed residential Canon of St Stephen Cathedral. In August 1991 he was elected the first Bishop of the Diocese of Byumba, the office he has been holding until he become Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church of Rwanda. He also served as Dean of the Province of the Anglican Church of Rwanda since 1995. Archbishop Rwaje was installed Sunday, January 23 as the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Rwanda and first Bishop of the newly created Gasabo Diocese. He holds a Master’s Degree in Theology and Development Studies from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and a Doctoral Degree in Theology in the area of Leadership (D.Min) from Fuller Theological Seminary in the US. He is married to Josephine, and they are blessed with five children.
